DENTAL LUXATORS
• The compact bone is thickest on the buccal side of the first and second molars in the maxilla and should be luxated from the palatal side.• The compact bone is thickest on the buccal side of the second and third molars in the mandible and should be luxated from the lingual side.• To minimize the risk of alveolar ridge fractures, the 5mm Luxator should be used buccally & lingually in molar region.• The maxillary lateral incisor should be luxated in a palatal direction because of the angle of the root.• Since most roots are normally curved distally, this should be taken into consideration during extractions.• Instructions continued on reverse side.The JULL-DENT LUXATOR in NOT an elevator and can NOT be used as an elevator. If used as an elevator The JULL-DENT LUXATOR will bend and/or break. Broken Luxators will not be replaced.
Sharpening The JULL-DENT LUXATOR:• Hold the sharpening stone at one end in your left hand and The JULLDENT LUXATOR in your right hand. Place the concave surface of the tip on the sharpening stone and stroke away from your left hand. Lift the blade after each stroke and replace at the original site. Repeat until the blade is sharp.• Before sharpening look at the angle of the cutting tip you are about to sharpen. The aim of sharpening is to maintain the same degree of bevel as was on the instrument originally, not to change the shape.• Lubricate your chosen sharpener with water. Repeat as necessary during sharpening. This reduces heat produced during sharpening, and keeps dust and metal filings down.• Use appropriate personal protective equipment – safety goggles are best.
General Advice: 1) Have a flatter concave surface the elevators, and have sharp edges as well as tip. The handles are plastic. The manufacturer recommends that these are sharpened on the concave surface. The stone supplied with these and shown in the table above is round with parallel sides, so is fixed diameter. This is therefore only suitable for one size ofluxator. Using the diamond cone will provide a sufficient range of diameters to match the luxator to be sharpened. Having matched the diameter of your luxator, hold the lubricated sharpeninginstrument steadily in one hand and place the concave tip of the blade on the sharpening surface and stroke away. Lift the blade after each stroke. Repeat untilsharp.2) Checking your instrument is sharp!Get an old plastic toothbrush or a piece of plastic with a similar density. Hold the sharpened instrument at a 45 degree angle to the surface. Using light pressure, push or pull it, depending on how it’s normally used. If it slips or glides, it’s not sharp. If the instrument grabs or shaves the surface, it’s sharp.
Sterilizing The JULL-DENT LUXATOR:The JULL-DENT LUXATOR can be sterilized using the following methods:• Autoclave at 270o F for 20 minutes (132 Degrees Celcius)• Dry Heat at 356o F for 120 minutes (180 Degrees Celcius)
