The latest strategic partnership in the world of digital dentistry is the purchase of iTero maker Cadent by Align Technology of Invisalign fame. This collaboration joins 3M ESPE/Straumann, Ivoclar/Nobel Biocare, 3Shape/3M ESPE, and several other partnerships in the growing area of digital impressioning, 3D implant planning, and CAD/CAM technologies. And there are sure to be more.

It only makes sense. There are so many componente neceasary to make the digital workflow flow….hardware, software, materials, and myriad accessories. Why can’t they all work together?! Perhaps these alliances being forged are a sign that the digital restorative process will follow digital radiography and imaging in spawning a DICOM-like standard. Let’s check back in a few years.
