Pediatricians, general and family practice physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants (in federally qualified health center settings only) in West Virginia are now eligible to be reimbursed for providing certain oral healthcare services.
Beginning this month, the Bureau for Medical Services is joining with the West Virginia Children’s Health Insurance Program in participating in the West Virginia Medical Infant and Child Oral Health Program for Primary Care Practitioners.

The program covers children younger than 3 years old who are determined to be at a high risk for developing dental caries and includes caries screening, preventive oral health and dietary counseling, administration of topical fluoride varnish, and referring children to ensure they have an established dental home.

Eligible medical professionals qualify for reimbursement once they have gone through the required training. Cost for the online training is $40.
