rim results of the ongoing Oral Conditions and Pregnancy study indicated that pregnant women with periodontal disease at baseline had a 3.3-fold increased risk of spontaneous preterm birth before 37 weeks. This was true after adjusting for other risk factors, including prior preterm birth, smoking, treatment for bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy race, and maternal age
