Hypnosis In Dentistry
Before we move on further, lets understand the principle on which Hypnotherapy is based. I am going to use the word Hypnosis, for Convenience.
We all are Suggestible, in some way or the other. In fact our whole life depends on suggestibility. Someone suggests a movie or a restaurant and we give it a try. Patients come to consult you , either someone suggests your name and or they see good reviews of you on Google and they give you a try.
To take a step further, we all have a certain amount of Hypnotizability. It varies from person to person.
Research has found out our Hypnotizability stabilizes after we reach the age of 21. Till that time the individuals hypnotizability is shaped by his/her programming, the schooling, his choices.
We are most suggestible or Hypnotizable when we are in Flight or fight or freeze mode. That’s where the subconscious Mind is completely open and we react rather than respond.
But we as Therapists, use the relaxation technique more often to guide our patients into that state.
Though Hypnotizability does not determine the success of a therapy. Even less Hypnotizable people can undergo Hypnotic Trance.
Geographically we Indians and Asians are most Hypnotizable, than come Europeans and than others. But there are 1% of population who cannot be Hypnotizes at all.
Next we will discuss the Myths associated with Hypnosis.
