KS Lokesh and his wife Asha lost their child Sirish who was going to celebrate his 3rd birthday on Mar 12. The child is suspected to have become a victim of the callousness of doctors who have been accused of killing him with anaesthesia overdose. The toddler, who had complained of toothache, was taken to a dental clinic at HSR Layout on Wednesday, Feb 6. The boy accompanied by his mother reached the clinic at 7:30 am and the accused Dr Raviraj administered anaesthesia for filling the oral cavities around 8 am. The family members claimed that the boy fell unconscious within two minutes and remained so for the next three hours. Asha was assured that her child would wake up. However, after waiting for a long time, the boy was rushed to Garden City Hospital in Jayanagar. It is believed that the boy might have died within minutes of giving anaesthesia. However, Asha and her family members were informed about his death at 1:30 pm. Asha was quoted as saying, “To my repeated questions on the boy being shifted to the ward instead of being treated in the clinic, neither the doctor, nor the hospital staff provided satisfactory answers. I was not allowed to see the boy, but the behaviour of the people there suggested that something was amiss.” The family members later showed their rage on Dr Raviraj after beating him up. Bangalore police, however, informed that they would take action against the doctor after receiving the postmortem report. A case has been filed against the doctor accusing him of negligence. The doctor claimed that he had done nothing wrong, and that vomiting and then swallowing it back on the part of the boy might have caused cardiac arrest. It was also reported that the boy might have suffered heart attacks thrice on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a complaint of assault has been filed by the doctor against the family members of deceased.

Instead, what they got to see was the post-mortem report which stated that their three-year-old had died of anaesthesia overdose leading to lung failure.
The dejected couple told The Hindu that their life had been turned upside down after their son passed away on February 6 after they took him to a private clinic in HSR Layout for a toothache.
The family also cancelled the 80th birthday celebrations of Sirish’s grandfather, which was to take place on February 7.
Sirish’s father, K.S. Lokesh, who is getting ready for a legal battle, said: “A minor cleaning of his teeth turned fatal. The doctor didn’t even seek permission to anaesthetise him.”
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Madiwala subdivision) H. Subbanna said the police were waiting for the Forensic Science Lab report to take action.
Sirish, who was taken to Annayamma Dental and Eye Care Clinic in HSR Layout, died after the dentist, Raviraj, allegedly administered the fatal overdose of anaesthesia.
