Acanthosis Nigricians is a poorly defined, velvety hyperpigmentation of the skin, and is generally brown to black in color. It is normally found in the skin pockets of the body such as the posterior, lateral folds on the neck, groin, umbilicus, forehead and other normally not visual areas of the body. Acanthosis Nigricians typically affects individuals 40 years or younger, may be genetically inherited and is often associated with obesity, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, acromegaly, ovary disease, insulin resistant diabetes patients or Cushing’s disease
