    AUXILIARY STAFF and PATIENT ATTRITION

Every dentist must constantly endeavor to increase his practice qualitatively and quantitatively. As a first step towards that purpose every dentist must analyze carefully as to what is causing patient attrition in his office. There are many reasons for patient attrition. They can be broadly classified as :

    1. Clinician oriented reasons.

    2. Other reasons.

As would be obvious the clinical skills and communication skills of the clinician are the main factors which build up a practice and reputation.

However there could be other reasons which do not directly relate to the clinician and can cause patient attrition. Every clinician must identify those reasons. One of the non-clinician oriented reasons is the quality of auxiliary staff. Bad, untrained or insincere auxiliary staff can cause patient attrition. The patient may come in the practice based on the reputation of the dentist but he brings in more patients based on his overall experience in the practice. Incompetent or insincere auxiliary staff spoil the patients overall experience in the dental office.

Every dentist  must put into place measures by which he

    1.      Hires the right staff.

    2.      Teams them approriately . This is a continous process.

    3.      Evaluates them at regular intervals.

    4.      Dismisses incompetent or insincere staff..

    This is a continous process.

Follows my work on these forums and I will elaborate more on this topic as and when my time permits.
