In a composite restoration, many clinicians prefer to give a first layer of flowable composite….and some even restore the entire proximal box with the flowable variety….to what extent is this technique advantageous?

I do not find it advantageous to use flowable composite for entire restoration.

I do not think there is any substantial advantage in lining the cavity with a flowable restoration.

Flowables may be of some use in abfraction cavities where there is heavy occlusal stress. In such cases lining the cavity with a flowable may be of some advantage.

Flowable composites are useful in pit and fissure caries

Cases in which it is difficult to condence composite to base floor and axial wall of tooth, there we use flowable composite. so in pits and fissure and proximal box.
