Love is something every person-dentist, staff, and patient-wants in their life. The interesting thing is we often seek love before giving love. There are lots of ways to increase the love in your life and to spread the love to co-workers and patients.
    1. Show love with a pleasant attitude no matter what is going on. Most of the time whatever is stressing you in the moment is just happening, not anyone trying to make you have a bad day. Take a deep breath and SMILE.
    2. Give the patient or the person in front of you your FULL attention. We live in over stimulated and over demanding world. WE all crave the full attention of those we work with and those who serve us. Focus on them and treat them as if they are the only person getting your attention in this moment.
    3. Be On Time. You attention to being on time is a way to show love and respect. When you are late, you imply disrespect toward the people who are waiting for you to show up. Create a practice culture of on-time patient care. Patients LOVE on-time.
    4. Do something unexpected and special for someone every day. Show love by taking out someone else’s trash, cleaning their room, bring them lunch, listening to them without fixing anything or judgment, put a secret “Thank You” card in their work area, bring them a treat they like, tell them you appreciate working with them, or having them as your loyal patient. You get the idea. If you look for an opportunity every day you are doubly blessed. You have made someone else smile and you feel good and look forward to the next time.
    5. Be loving toward all the people who serve you. It is easy to get upset with service providers at a restaurant, in a store, or any place of business. If you are receiving poor service, you can STOP and think that they may be having a bad day and forgive, or get yourself all steamed up. Just say to them, “You must be having a bad day.” You will be surprised how different you and the service person will feel.
    6. Give more hugs. Be sure that everyone in your home is hugged by you every day. Even on the days you are frustrated with them. The hug is a way to say, “I love you even though I may not like what you are doing in this moment.”
Take your Valentine’s spirit and send it out more than just one day.
Remember – be love to receive love.
