Does interdental brushing provide better cleaning than flossing? What should be recommended to the patients considering that interdental brushing is easier than flossing for the patients?

    Hello Dr Sumitra

Now coming to Flossing vs Interdental brushing.
Flossing does clean the insides of your teeth but not completely.
A normal toothbrush ( here again we recommend our two level SUPREME) cleans only 60% of your teeth. IDB takes care of 40% so it is very important to use IDB brushes. IDB brushes alsi can be used when people/kids have braces as our flexible head IDB can cleaned between the teeth and the brace.

We also have a range of Special Care ( post surgery brushes) with 12000 brsitles…bruhses for toddlers (Mini) for young kids (Zoo) and Teenagers ( Graffic). For adusts we have the flag ship Supreme and the Nova with extended bristles for the molars. We also have denture brushes…single flossers ( amazing!) and inter tuft brushes, proximals, wooden birch wood sticks to massage your gums….

all our brushes are in soft-extra soft and medium, Warm Regards capt. Bhasin Team HSI India

    That is indeed great information.
I would also like to add that the ADA recommendation states that depending on the type of embrasure one must prescribe the use of floss or inter dental brushes
Getting a patient motivated to floss daily is quite a tedious job and agreeably the interdental brushes seem to meke it easier
However from a clinician s point of view one must consider the embrasure types
TYPE 1 healthy gingiva with absolutely no recession or incresed interdental gap due to periodontal problems.
In this case of TYPE 1 we can recommend use of floss daily

TYPE2 mild to moderate amount of recession of gingiva acccompanied by increased interdental space as well as bone loss hinting towards periodontal problems
In such a case thin interproximal brushes available in gradation of sizes can be used

TYPE 3 severe spacing between teeth, high amount of recession alongwith bone loss
Such severe cases proclaim the need for small tufted round headed interproximal brushes with soft bristles.
