The word “Hypnotized” has different connotation for every one of us. Some of us may remember certain stage shows , where the Hypnotist makes adults do some funny childish behaviors or some of us may just remember some scenes in movies. Or maybe a magician doing some unexplainable tricks to shock the crowd.

Or maybe some may recollect Mandrake the Magician , turning pistols and knives into Bananas or cucumbers by Hypnotizing the villains.

But that was what in todays scientific terms is called as Stage Hypnosis or Hypnosis used for entertainment purposes. This Hypnosis comprises of 15% of total hypnosis.

The other 85% is what comprises of Clinical Hypnosis or Self hypnosis , used for therapeutic purposes.

Even today the major part of Atleast the Indian Population considers hypnosis to be used to controls someone MIND. In Colloquial terms called “Vashikaran”. Does that ring a bell. The only image a layman gets is a person moving a pendulum or a watch in front of a person’s eyes.

    Welcome to reality.

Hypnosis dates way back in 1700s and was always used to treat people. The best example was in India itself, when in 1850s Dr James Braid, a Scottish surgeon used Hypnosis to operate on nearly 250 patients , without a single drop of anaesthesia.

Today it has evolved from the shadows of Being a part of Psychotherapy to a full fledged Neuroscience , where we know which part of the brain activity is subdued under hypnosis.

Will continue in my next blog
