LUCKNOW: Jobless dental surgeons handed over a petition to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav during his Janata Darbar on Wednesday. Under the aegis of the dentists’ welfare association, the doctors said despite being qualified they were being forced to choose between unemployment and jobs other than their skill. For survival, many of them have taken up odd jobs.

The dentists said while there are about 14,000 posts for medical doctors, the number of posts for dentists is only 277. Their leader Mujib Alam said a large population, particularly in rural areas, does not have proper access to dental healthcare services.
