A Midland man who authorities say helped his wife embezzle from a dentist who employed her has been sentenced to pay $998,000 in restitution.

The Midland Daily News reports 55-year-old Kenneth Cieslinski appeared recently before a Midland County Circuit Court judge.

Cieslinski previously pleaded no contest to receiving and concealing property valued between $1,000 and $20,000, and receiving and concealing property valued between $200 and $1,000. Two counts of embezzlement between $1,000 and $20,000 were dismissed.

Cieslinski declined to speak during the hearing. Defense lawyer Eric E. Proschek says the situation has been “hard for everybody.”

The sentence includes five years of probation.

An office manager for a Sandy Springs, GA, dentist has been charged with stealing more than $2 million from the practice.

Rosemary D’Souza, who worked at TLC Dental, secretly boosted her salary to more than $800,000 and paid more than $600,000 to her husband, Joseph, and more than $83,000 to her daughter, Karen, according to a news reports.

The alleged thefts took place between 2009 and 2013. Police said word of D’Souza owning two homes in Florida triggered a check of the company’s books and revealed the embezzlement.

Roger Abbott of Dental, DMD, TLC’s owner, said it seemed as if there was never enough money for staff raises or needed equipment.
