A patient comes with complaint of radiating pain on left side jaw which radiates upto the temple region.
On examination theres no dental problems.
Kindly guide me what other medical problems could lead to such pain?

    Regards.

The possible causes include pericoronitis, impacted 3rd molar, deep pockets…the other non-dental cause may be some TMJ disorder…a radiograph may be of immense help..

opg has been taken but there are no dental problems.

Can trigeminal neuralagia be one of the causes?

    Regards.

is there a trigger zone / trigger points .

does the patient get pain when a blast of cold air touches his face.

will it be possible for u to scan the OPG and post it.

many radiologists now are able to give the OPG digitally also.

A case of trigeminal neuralgia very characteristically gives symptoms like pain lasting for few seconds of extreme intensities…resembling LIGHTNING or ELECTRIC SHOCKS or KNIFE LIKE STABS…i.e. lancinating type of pain
The pain gets provoked by even slightest or obvious stimuli

    Pain never crosses the midline
Trigger zones are those points wen touched precipitate a severe pain attack
Trigger zones include lip border, alae of nose, cheeks and around eyes

Pain not from dental origin could be MYOSITIS,MUSCLE SPASM, TRISMUS TMJ ARTHRITIS OR MYOFUNCTIONAL DYSFUNCTION
