An archaeological dig in Pakistan recently uncovered nine skulls with teeth containing drilled holes. Flint drill bits were also found.
Apparently, whether for dental or spiritual purposes, a bow with a flint bit was used to drill perfect holes in teeth, even in hard-to-reach molars.
A reenactment proved that it took less than one minute to drill a hole 3.5 mm deep with the flint-tipped tool. Why did they do it? No one knows. How did they handle the pain? No one knows. It is an interesting discovery, nonetheless.
