1. When an existing restoration is removed pre endodontically?
An existing restoration is completely removed pre endodontically when the restoration does not seal adequately, when there is caries underlying the previous restoration, when there are posts or screw posts and when the restoration could not remain after the access is prepared.
2. When it is not required to completely remove the existing restoration pre endodontically?
Pre endodontic removal of the existing restoration is not necessary when there is no underlying carious lesion, when there is no other filling material in the pulp chamber or when a properly prepared prosthetic restoration has to be preserved.
3. What does pre treatment in endodontics mean?
Pretreatment in endodontics means all those techniques that prepare for endodontic therapy and that simplifies optimal isolation of the operative field. So before beginning a definitive endo therapy, all caries is removed and contours of the tooth restored.
4. What are the objectives of pre treatment in endodontics?
The objectives are:
- To prevent bacterial contamination from the carious tissues
- Easy positioning of the rubber dam
- To reconstruct the pulp chamber to hold the irrigating solutions and medicaments
- No leakage from the walls of the endodontic cavity
- Re establishment of a stable tooth contour
- To prevent post operative discomfort and to avoid fracturing of the tooth during treatment
5. Why is the occlusion relieved following access preparation?
Sometimes after completion of RCT, the patient may complain of a periodontal type of pain. To preclude this pain and avoid the possibility of fracture, the occlusion is relieved.
