Essay Competition for Dental Students in India
A Global Child Dental Fund Initiative
In honour of the late Richard Law, an accountant who tragically died from oral cancer, the Global Child Dental Fund (http://www.gcdfund.org/) is offering an award of $500 to dental students in India willing to enter an essay competition. The competition is open to current students of dental colleges across India under two categories: undergraduate and post-graduate.
The opening date is 1st March 2014 and the closing date is 30th September 2014.
The Award will be announced on 1st December 2014. There will be one winner in each category (undergraduate and postgraduate), who will receive the cash prize. There will be two runner-ups in each category who will receive certificates.
How to Apply
• The competition is open to current students of dental colleges across India under two categories: undergraduate and post-graduate.
• Each student may submit only one essay.
• A covering letter signed by the Dean/ Principal of the college must be submitted with the essay.
• There can be more than one author; however, only the first author will be the considered as a recipient if awarded.
• The essays will be judged on the basis of originality, correct referencing and the content matter.
• The decision of judges shall be final.
• The result of the competition and any related information will be displayed on the GCD Fund website.
Essay Competition for the Richard Law Award 2014
Essays should be on any one of three topics:
Topics for the undergraduate category:
1. Current challenges in the delivery of oral healthcare in India
2. Oral cancer: causes and concerns in India
3. Undergraduate dental curriculum in India: suggestions for improvement
Topics for the postgraduate category:
1. Oral Cancer: recent approaches in prevention and management
2. How to improve access to care (dental services) in India
3. Postgraduate dental curriculum in India: suggestions for improvement
Essay Requirements
Word limit 3000 words (excluding references)
Referencing style Harvard (Author- Year)
To be included in submission:
1. Covering letter signed by the Dean/ Principal of the college.
2. Title page: Title of the essay, name of the author/s, name of the institute, contact details (address, telephone no. and e mail address of the first author).
3. Essay: MS Word document, Arial Font, Size 12, double spacing
All applications should be submitted electronically to the Global Child Dental Fund: awards@gcdfund.org
