Further the dental council of India has also approved a 100 seat dental college in Siddhpur. Interestingly these two areas are constitutencies of senior ministers in the cabinet. Patan was constituency of Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel and Siddhpur was the constituency of Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas.

Medical Council of India (MCI) has on Thursday granted approval to Gandhinagar Medical College, while approval for Valsad Medical College is still awaited. The college council has granted permission to 150 seats for Gandhinagar.
The state government had proposed five medical colleges under Gujarat Medical Education Research Society (GMERS) and the Gandhinagar college is one of them.

With this, MCI has approved a total of 2,755 MBBS seats till now, including 425 new seats for the academic year 2012-2013. The new seats include increased seats in existing colleges – 50 seats for Government Medical College, Bhavnagar; 50 seats for Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research and 25 for M P Shah Medical College, Jamnagar.
